Category
So you think you're the next American Idol? Have a great lyric but can't play guitar to save your life? Well, Microsoft has a program for you that might just help you realize your dreams. It's called Songsmith and a free trial is avaialble for download.

Songsmith is pretty simple to use. When you fire it up you can choose from one of thirty differnet musical styles. Hit record and start singing. When you stop Songsmith will create an accompaniment for you and - viola! You're a songwriter. Granted, the arrangments can be a little simple at first. But fear not! Several sliders allow you to change the feal of the song as well as change some of the chords around.

Something else that's kinda fun to do is to take some of your favorite songs and change their genres around. Hip Hop Johnny Cash anyone? What about Celtic Jay Z? The combinations are endless and fun. A variety of people have posted their creations on Youtube (Calypsio "Roxanne" by The Police).
